Installation & Removal

Getting your dock in and out of the water the right way protects your investment, keeps your family safe, and saves you from costly repairs. We handle every step — from spring installation to fall removal and storage — so you can focus on enjoying the water.

Spring Dock Installation

We handle everything from the first post to the final safety check so your dock is ready the moment the season starts. Our crew coordinates around ice-out conditions and your schedule, making spring setup completely hands-off for you.

  • Seasonal dock installation — full setup of your dock system as soon as conditions allow

  • Boat lift installation — proper alignment and anchoring for safe, season-long use

  • Pre-launch inspection — we check the entire structure before it goes in the water

  • Hardware checks — tightening, lubricating, and replacing worn bolts, brackets, and fittings

  • Safety review — final walkthrough to confirm stability, levelness, and load capacity

Fall Dock Removal

Michigan winters are hard on anything left in the water. We remove your dock before freeze-up, store it properly, and leave your shoreline clean — so you're not scrambling in October and your dock is ready to go next spring.

  • Dock removal — full disassembly and extraction before the first hard freeze

  • Boat lift removal — careful takedown to prevent ice damage over winter

  • Winter preparation — rinsing and inspecting components before storage

  • Storage recommendations — on-site stacking of your preferred location

Why professional installation matters

A dock that isn't installed correctly doesn't just look off — it can be genuinely dangerous and expensive to fix. Professional installation means your dock is built to last the season and survive Michigan winters in storage.

  • Ice damage prevention — proper removal timing and technique prevents bent frames, cracked decking, and structural failure

  • Proper leveling — an unlevel dock stresses joints, accelerates wear, and creates trip hazards

  • Structural integrity — correct post depth and spacing ensures your dock handles boat traffic, wave action, and heavy loads

  • Safety — a professionally installed dock meets load requirements and reduces liability risk for you and your guests

FAQs

When should docks be installed in Michigan?

1

For most of Michigan, dock installation season runs from late April through late May, once water temperatures begin to rise and ice-out is complete. Northern Michigan lakes (like Torch Lake or Higgins Lake) may not be fully ice-free until mid-May, while lakes in the lower peninsula are often ready by late April. We recommend scheduling early — our calendar fills up quickly in spring. Contact us in February or March to lock in your preferred date.

When should docks be removed?

2

Do I need to be home during installation or removal?

Michigan docks should be removed before the first hard freeze, which typically means October 1 – November 1 for most of the state. Northern Michigan lake owners should plan for mid-October at the latest. Lower peninsula lakes may allow removal into early November. Ice forming around dock posts and pipes can cause serious structural damage, so don't wait until the last minute.

Can my dock or boat lift stay in the water over winter?

3

In most cases, no. Leaving a dock in a Michigan inland lake over winter is strongly discouraged and can void your dock's warranty. Ice expansion exerts enormous lateral force on posts and frames, bending or snapping them. Shifting ice sheets can carry entire dock sections off-shore. Freeze-thaw cycles loosen hardware and accelerate corrosion. Many Michigan lakes and HOAs also require removal as a condition of permit or membership. Some permanent docks with specialized de-icing or bubbler systems can overwinter — ask us if yours qualifies.

How long does installation take?

4

Most residential dock installations take between 2 and 4 hours, depending on dock length, water depth, bottom conditions, and whether accessories like boat lifts or swim platforms are being added. A simple 20–30 ft dock takes about 1.5–2 hours. Larger sectional docks with accessories may take 3–5 hours. We'll give you a more accurate estimate when you book.

Not necessarily. As long as we have clear access to your shoreline and the dock hardware is accessible, our crew can complete the job without you present. We'll send photos and a completion summary when finished. For new installations or boat lifts, we do prefer a brief walkthrough beforehand to confirm placement.
